Remote shoot with printmaker Lizi Beevor from SILVA

This is Lizi, a linocut artist who creates beautiful detailed art from nature and folklore. Clearly a craft of patience and experimentation, which just so happens to be two main ingredients in a photoshoot - especially a remote one!

I loved seeing Lizi put her doubts and fears aside and commit to having a remote shoot, for her own self-confidence and her business.

Some thoughts from Lizi on her experience:

“It’s so strange to feel complete trust in someone taking your photo, yet not be able to imagine photos of yourself that look as good as the ones you’ve seen in their portfolio…but I can’t tell you how overjoyed I am with these.

I’m ready for my art and my business to stand up and be out in the world.

Lizi, in her garden studio. At this point, her phone was positioned outside the studio, shooting through an open window to give us more space to work with. During a remote shoot, we’re spending a lot of the time problem-solving - figuring out how I can get a shot I have in mind whilst not being physically there!

I appreciated how Lizi put some thought into our shoot ahead of time by hanging a piece of fabric against a plain wall - this added some depth and contrast for me to work with!

To Lizi’s right is a large window with sheer curtains (see the next photo), which created that lovely soft light.

Another shot inside Lizi’s garden shed - you can see the window to the right, which is where we had Lizi’s phone positioned to get more space for some of the shots.
